Sally Flax

FLAX, Sally, was a pistol whose laughter could be heard over any crowd. Born January 15, 1925 in Chicago. Died December 13, 2011 in Tucson. Sally was a human rights warrior, an intrepid traveler, a lover, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a dear friend to many, a student of the world. In 1946, she married Jack Flax (deceased 2006) and moved to Anchorage, Alaska. They eventually settled near Minneapolis and traveled to Mexico annually in the 1950's and 60's settling in Guatemala in the mid 1970's. With friends, she visited Africa, South America, Europe, and China in the early 1970's and again on the Peace Train in 1995. She founded the Minnesota chapter of the World Wide Women, funded a scholarship at the University of Minnesota for an International Student, co-authorized a book entitled "Women in a World of Work", helped produce Pablo Neruda's El Canto General in Minneapolis and attended classes and lectures until she was slowed by Alzheimer's disease in her 80's. Sally will be remembered by son, Jim (CeCe, granddaughter, Justine), daughter, Kate (granddaughter, Sally); son, John (Pamela); son Richard, relatives and many many friends. She will be included in a celebration of life at Encore Senior Village her residence of the last two and half years. 2675 N. Wyatt Drive. Friday, February 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.
